Python pymodbus connect to VPN router [I/O Remote]

I have set up an AWS OpenVPN server and I am using a router with VPN configuration. I have set up the router to connect to the VPN, and I can access the router through another device connected to another instance of the VPN (not on the same physical network as the router).

However, I cannot access the devices connected to the router. The router gets assigned an IP of "175.100.XXX.XX" , and so does my computer. However, the devices I connect to the router (Moxa I/O remotes) get an internal IP, and I cannot access them even though we are technically on the same network.

I have tried opening ports to pass through incoming connections on these ports to the devices, but I still cannot connect.

I am getting this error:

ERROR:pymodbus.client.sync:Connection to (175.100.XXX.XX, 3890) failed: [Errno 61] Connection refused

Any advice of how i can set this up so that these devices are accessible through remote

  • Are you able to connect/ping the IP and ports are listening ?.

  • I tried doing an nmap of the IP, and it seems the ports are still closed. Only open ports are 80/tcp, 515/tcp and 9100/tcp. I tried opening ports 3760-3800 for device 1 and port 3801-3820 for device 2. These should point to port 502 internally. But seems the connection is still blocked. Firewall is turned off.
