Debian won't connect to my network

0

I am trying to connect to my home network with Debian 9, but it doesn't usually work. I connected to the network via Ethernet a couple of times after I installed the OS, and everything worked, but I wasn't able to connect to WiFi. (Debian was not able to configure the network during installation). And now, I can't even connect via Ethernet. Because I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to Linux configuration files and such, my troubleshooting options are limited, and the articles I have found regarding Debian not able to connect to the Internet don't confront this particular problem. Even so, I have tried the solutions presented in those articles to no avail.

When I tried connecting to WiFi, there was a strong signal, and the network manager applet reported the network as active, but when I started Firefox ESR, it could not connect.

I left Debian alone for a while and came back to it a few weeks later (no hardware or software changes since then). I then tried pinging my network card with 0% packet loss (while the network was both active and inactive). When the network was active, I tried pinging the router but I regretfully forget the results, and as I cannot connect to the router currently, I cannot duplicate that experiment.

After playing with it and doing nothing which was not mentioned above, it successfully connected, and when I started Firefox, it was able to load webpages. I then put the computer into sleep mode for the night. When I woke up the next morning, the same odd and rebellious behavior commenced, and I was not able to establish a connection, even while the network was supposedly active.

I know that there's nothing wrong with the WiFi adapter, because it did work for a few hours, and I have used it extensively with Windows 10 with 0 issues.

I read this question and I tried sudo cat > filename and recieved a message which said bash: filename: Permission denied. The permissions for each of those files is -rw-r-----

I don't know what else to do. I'm not exactly an expert with Linux, and I haven't found any new solutions in a while.

system specs:

  • kernel release: 4.9.0-7-amd64

  • Debian 9 Stretch

  • information from lspci: 06:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 15) and 07:00.0 Network controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8192EE PCIe Wireless Network Adapter

  • WiFi adapter: tp-link TL-WN881ND 300Mbps Wireless N PCI Express Adapter

EDIT:

I read somewhere about a similar problem, and the solution had to do with the BIOS, so I booted into my BIOS and looked for anything interesting. I disabled SR-IOV. When I booted into Debian, it automatically connected to the Internet successfully. After a couple of hours of Internet access, it randomly disconnected. I was able to reactivate the connection, but I was still not actually connected. When I tried pinging my router, I got this error message: connect: Network is unreachable
