Strange keyboard interaction with eclipse

I am working with a remote linux system that has eclipse on it.
The keyboard acts very strangely! If I press enter, it goes to the beginning of next line, just like pressing down arrow key.
If I press slash "/" instead of entering actual slash into the editor, it opens some textbox at the bottom of the text editor and acts like vim or less (e.g. you press / to search for something).
How can I disable this behavior and make it work normally?
