Toggle HTML/JQuery validation

0

I have an MVC application. I need to switch input validation by model value.
When is checkbox is checked the field E-Mail must be required with my own validation message, otherwise not.

The Input:

<input type="checkbox"
name="@Html.NameFor(a=> a.CreatePersonAsUser)"
id="@Html.IdFor(a=> a.CreatePersonAsUser)"
value="@Html.ValueFor(a=>a.CreatePersonAsUser)"
onchange="createUserRightChange(this)" />

<script type="text/javascript">
function createUserRightChange(cbx) {
var isChecked = $(cbx).is(':checked');
var emailElement = $('#@Html.IdFor(a => a.Email)');

if (isChecked) {
emailElement.attr('required', 'required');
emailElement.on('oninput', $(emailElement)[0].setCustomValidity(''));
emailElement.on('oninvalid', $(emailElement)[0].setCustomValidity('My validation message'));

} else {
emailElement.removeAttr('required');
emailElement.off('oninput');
emailElement.off('oninvalid');
}
}

$(document).ready(function () {
createUserRightChange($('#@Html.IdFor(a => a.CreatePersonAsUser)'));
});
</script>

At the beginning is checkbox unchecked. When I check the checkbox field validation works well. When I change my mind and uncheck checkbox, validation still work.

I dont know how to change validation.

Of course I validate model on server site but I want to do right validation on client site.

It is possible to turn off client validation by Javascript or JQuery?

Thanks for advice and help.

  • Use a conditional validation attribute - for example a foolproof [RequiredIfTrue] attribute

  • I have assembly from customer with models withoud source code and this model classes are sealed and used for sending to other systems. I do not would to write some enveloped for this, or some kind of mapper or something similar. I think (i hope) it would be possible to make it by javascript or jquery...

  • Your editing data so you always use a view model, not a data model in your view so you can add whatever properties/validation attributes etc that you want.
