Unexpected BsonType when trying to fetch data from Memcached

When fetching cached objects from Amazon Elasticache (memcached 1.5.10) in my .NET Core Web API I get the below error.
Running memcached locally does not produce any error, and it stores content fine.
Looking at the source, row 578, the error indicates the serializer does not understand one or many of my types. However, I can't seem to understand why it would not, and why it would work locally.
