Unity - Unchecking Global GI results in a dark room

I apologize if its a very basic question, but I am getting confused.
I have set the mode of all the lights in the scene to Baked. Now, if I uncheck Realtime GI in the Lighting Inspector and check Baked GI, the room becomes dark. If I do the other way round ( or even if I check both), then I get a message that the mode of my lights has been overwridden to Realtime. Could someone help me understand how to handle this? What do I need to do to set the mode as Baked for my lights?
