“Survive” vs “survive for” in a question
Is there any difference, either in meaning/emphasis or in correctness, between "survive" and "survive for" in a question?
Example:
I didn't water my plants before leaving. How long will they survive?
vs
I didn't water my plants before leaving. How long will they survive for?

'For' is unnecessary with verbs such as survive, live, last unless a time period is mentioned. Will my plants survive for a week?
