Computer Hanging/freezing periodically. tried a lot of fixes to no avail
I have a good build.
On paper, everything should work smooth as butter.
I've tried a ton of fixes to no avail.
If you're ready to accept the challenge, read on...
Computer will freeze for 5-10 seconds and then stay running for about 5. I will often get a "firefox not responding" whether I am using 10% or 90% of my memory.
But my browser keep hanging and my computer freezes periodically too. I feel like this computer should not freeze period. Especially for things like simple web browsing.
More recently, some games have been locking up and skipping. Not an internet issue, but a hardware or software issue.
I can still move my mouse when this happens 9/10 times.
If anyone knows how I can fix this, please help. I will include the fixes I have tried already, along with my specs.
- Memory diagnostic tool - no problem reported.
- Turned power saving settings off
- Clean reset. Kept documents, but deleted all applications in process.
- Turned on hardware acceleration in Firefox - no change.
- Defrag
- I keep task manager open often. Rarely do I go above 50% memory usage. Usually below 10% cpu usage. When computer hangs, CPU % doesn't react significantly.
- Bought a new PSU that can handle way more than the rest of my system needs.
- Implemented tight control of startup apps and background apps.
- I'm sure there is more I've done. Will add later if I remember. But that's most of it.
Additional notes:
-I just added 4GB of ram. Now I have 12. No dice.
-My OS is on Samsung SSD 850 PRO 256GB
-I've never recorded temps over 50 degrees Celsius on any components.
Here is detailed link to my hardware: Here
I will also write hardware specs below.
After all this... my 5 year old IPad that I got on sale is a better web browser than this high(er) end gaming pc that I built from scratch. It's depressing.
I'm stumped.
Is there anyone out there smarter than me that has any other solutions?
Thank you so much!
