How to create a VHD

I have a windows XP that is failing with an important database in it, and would like to create a .vhd before trying any repairs. In the past I have used disk2vhd, but if I remember correctly it has to be used from inside the the windows being imaged. Right now I am cloning the disk into a new one.

Can anyone suggest a method of creating a .vhd knowing that the xp restarts every few minutes. I would prefer to have a vhd so maybe I can mount it as vm if needed

  • mount that disk to a working OS once the cloning is done and then use disk2vhd.
