Verb tense for “What I do remember is (noun) + (verb)…”

Multi tool use
I can't remember what happened. What I do remember is the sound of
the television drowning in the silence of the falling snow. What I do
remember is you opening the door, and in the distant grey, a lone
street lamp (was) standing; its warm embers dyeing the falling snow a
rose-orange. The streets were empty and silent. The only sound echoed
in the night was the flickers of the Christmas lights along the empty
streets. You opened the door.
Please consider the paragraph (I am trying to write) above: the speaker is currently remembering an event that happened.
My question is: should the verb following "what i remember is..." be present or past?
Does the act of remembering turn all past actions into present actions?
If I were to write:
What I do remember is the sound of the television drowned in the
silence of the falling snow. What I do remember is you opened the
door, and in the distant grey, a lone street lamp stood; its
warm embers dyed the falling snow a rose-orange.The streets were empty and silent. The only sound echoed

streets. You opened the door.
would the paragraph be grammatically sound?
verbs tenses past-tense present-perfect
