Isn’t it a typo?
The passage below is from a book, Japanese Philosophy-A Source Book.
So the three teachings all have their penchants. One should realize
this clearly and not be led astray. The penchant of Buddhism is for
magic, for which people nowadays use the world sorcery. Indian
people are fond of it. In proclaiming a way and teaching people, they
will not believe and follow unless they are led with an admixture of
magic.
In this passage I cannot make any sense with the bold-faced word, WORLD.
It seems like a typo of WORD to me.
Do you agree with me?
If not, can you tell me why?

Sure it’s a typo. Why make a big deal of it?

I would guess it's typo. If there were some hidden message in there I suspect there would be numerous contextual clues.

I just want to make sure of it. Thanks.

It is certainly a typo, but—that being the case—there is no deeper analysis possible here than proofreading, which is off-topic at this site. (I don't blame you for asking, however, morti—many things that look wrong to a casual observer turn out to be right for unsuspected reasons.)

I'm voting to close this question as off-topic because it is about a typo and not about the English language
