Semantics of the date/time of an email message in various web interfaces
I'm in the process of reorganizing my e-mail workflow, and am now basing everything around mbsync and mu4e. Every now and then, however, I will need to log in to various horrid web interfaces supplied by my e-mail providers. I've noticed a weird behavior common to all of the very varied web interfaces: the date/time of a message displayed is typically the date/time of the last IMAP move, not the "date" header field of the message itself.
Before I go complaining to the various web interface providers: is there any sensible reason why an interface would use the date/time when the message was altered over IMAP rather than its (correct and intact) "date" header field? Am I confused about IMAP (or perhaps the underlying Maildir) semantics?
