Can I use Install Referral broadcast to track app installed event?

0

I need to track app install event in my android application I am considering tracking the event by recording the event for the first time the application is opened then set a status in the shared preference to indicate that the event as already been recorded so that it would not be shown for subsequent app opens. But the problem with that method is that, not all the user that install the application would open it and also, when a user sign into my application and then logs out, I clear the shared preference completely so if that happens the app install event could be called again when the application is opened.

Another option I am considering is using install referral receiver to track the event, such that when the referral broadcast is sent, I log the event for app install. Is this a correct way of recording app install event?
