Vcenter 6.7 - Want to create some completely internal vlans. Do i need physical adapters attached to my...

0

The Vlans do not need to extend to anything outside of Vcenter. The VMs using the Vlans only need to talk to each other. I tried creating a separate vswitch for (no adapter attached) for each vlan. I tried creating one vswitch with a physical adapter attached, and then adding port groups to it. Neither seems to work. The VMs dont talk over the vlans/pgs. Most use cases involve a hybrid network so adapters are needed, however my environment is purely a training lab so no physical networking is needed. I cant seem to find much in the documentation on this kind of setup. Is there a simple way to do this?

  • I see no reason to complicate things with vlans. Why not just use multiple internal vSwitches and add more adapters to the VMs? VM hardware is cheap ;)

  • My first setup I used a different vswitch for each "vlan", with no adapter attached. Then i did the same thing with a physical adapter and couldn't get either to work.

  • I've done it many times before with no physical adapter. What exactly do you run in to?
