Should I use did or the past tense of verb

0

Example :
If someone asks " did you walk him home?"

Should I say :
EX1: Yes! I did walk him home.
EX2: Yes! I walked him home.

So what is the difference between them? and when to use them correctly. Thank you

Both are correct and both have the same meaning. However, in school they might ask you to use (EX1) as the answer. This might be to train you on how to turn the sentence from interrogative mood to indicative mood, while keeping the same construction using the auxiliary did. Well, in that case the answer would be the one-sentence answer Yes, I did walk him home.

In real life, you would just say 'Yes, I did.'

Unless you want to sound insistent (or else awkward or stilted), go with "I walked".
