If+Are+Ing Correct?

0

I saw the following sentence on a book (It was a conversation between two students).

If you are going to school bring an extra pencil.

I want to know whether this is correct or not because I have never seen that if condition with "ing" form.

I checked Google on this,

Some Links : https://www.ef.com/wwen/english-resources/english-grammar/conditional/ , https://guidetogrammar.org/grammar/conditional2.htm

Almost all articles explain that there are three types of if conditions.

Eg :

  1. First conditional: If I have enough money, I will go to Japan.

  2. Second conditional: If I had enough money, I would go to Japan.

  3. Third conditional: If I had had enough money, I would have gone to Japan.

I couldn't find any other type.

I'd say if you're saying you've never seen this construction before, you're not looking hard enough.

  • My only comments are that it should be school in lowercase (unless School is the name of a specific place) and that there should be a comma after it. Everything else about the sentence is perfectly fine.
