Projected Population
*Question
The graph shows the population of three countries in 1950 and 2000 (in millions) and their projected population figures for 2050. The table shows the life expectancy figures for the years 1950 and 2000 and the projected figures for 2050 for the same three countries. Write a report outlining the main features of the data presented and making comparisons where relevant. You should write at least 150 words.*
The given bar graph provides the trend of population while the table presents a comparison of people’s ages in China, the USA and Spain in three periods from 1950 – 2050.
It can be clearly seen that China has the largest population, which is many times higher than the number of people living in the other two countries. The people in all three countries at the end of the research period are expected to live longer than in the past.
The graph shows that the numbers of inhabitants in China and USA gradual increase over the period, both doubled after 100 years, from 700 – 1500 million in China and from 200 – 400 million in the USA. In the meantime, the number of populations in Spain peaked up in 2000 at 40 million and declines to 35 million in the projected year.
As the table suggests, the life expectation in China and Spain improve over the years studied, and Spain reaches the highest age at the end of the phase, at 77. In the USA, the ages just slightly have increased from 1950, peaked up at 75 in 2000, then anticipated to have a fall to 74 in 2050.
