Custom user functions for w3m terminal browser

0

I am looking to add some custom functions to w3m, namely to attach to bindings for simple cursor navigation, but am not sure how to go about doing it. How might I gain access to variables such as cursor positions and buffer dimensions to implement, say, vim's equivalent of H, M, and L?

I would also quite like to implement something like vim's paragraph-based navigation using { and }, though I imagine that might be somewhat more difficult given the html that would need to be parsed.

There was a javascript plugin in development for w3m about 15 years ago, but it seems very nearly lost. I did manage to track it down, but it has 1,000's of lines of code (I don't much understand), so I am still not sure how to begin a project like that, though with far humbler aspirations. I know edbrowse has some javascript support through the duktape javascript engine, so maybe I could learning something there. I do not need to run javascript IN the pager, I just might like to run it ON the pager to make it easier to navigate.

Anybody with experience with something like this?
