Determine the exact RAM used by a process
The following is a screenshot of the system's htop:

I am trying to understand the difference between the Memory usage(86.1G/231G) and the RES field for the process(253G) indicated by the 2 pink boxes in the screenshot.
(Note: PIDs 28168-28199 come under the same parent process, which utilize all the CPU cores)
From the htop manual page,
M_RESIDENT (RES) : The resident set size, i.e the size of the text and
data sections, plus stack usage.
This also corresponds to the VmRSS field in the /proc/proc_id/staus file.
How can I get the exact RAM used by a process?
If I want to constantly track whether a process has started using the SWP space due to lack of free space in the main memory, how can I go about this?
