Why cannot we pause an app's build process?

Since big apps takes a lot of time to build, it would have been a convenience if the process could be paused to fix issues as small as 'duplicate resources found'. Instead the process gets cancelled. The developers definitely did not include such a pausing feature. So what is the problem that stops them from adding it? Is that even possible?
