What does the phrase “getting a taste for” mean?

1

In a movie, I have seen the following scene:

  1. A dog licked a face of a man.

  2. The man said something.

  3. The dog was barking with the following subtitle: "I wasn't licking. I was getting a taste for when you were dead."

I do not understand what this means.

  • It has several possible meanings. It can imply either "getting a taste of" -- simply sampling the taste -- or "developing a taste for" -- becoming accustomed to the flavor of.
