Present Perfect and Past Simple on a specific example

0

I read several topics about this here and I also familiar with basic rules for detecting either Past Simple or Present Perfect in a sentence required but I still can't figure out what exactly I should write here:

_________ (you exercise) at the gym? You are looking very tired.

Choices:

  1. Should I assume that second part of sentence gives me a tip about link between past action and present (Present Perfect)

Have you exercised? You are looking very tired.

    or

  2. Should I treat the first part of sentence as an action that no longer affects present (we don't even know exactly what the reason why he/she is looking tired).

Did you exercise? You are looking very tired.
